Where Our Food Comes From

The sources for our food are numerous:

-
Twice a month we order from Long Island Cares, a food bank that gives us access to donated food products as well as access to listed foods from government programs or poundage amounts based upon our number of recipients.
-
We purchase dairy, fruit and meat from six wholesale distributors
-
Local farmers have been exceptionally generous to our operation, donating fresh produce throughout the year.
-
We also receive shelf stable food from individuals, civic groups, schools, institutions, local businesses, and religious organizations.
-
Monetary donations are our most important resource enabling us to order fresh produce, eggs, bread, and milk from wholesale purveyors, as well as frozen meat, poultry and fish frozen and dry goods such as cooking oil, cereal, legumes, and vegetables. We purchase from three different wholesalers to find the very best prices.

Springs Food Pantry is thankful for all monetary donations—large or small—which help to offset the financial burden we incur each week to feed our neighbors. Our weekly distribution costs are currently approaching $20,000. We would like to give special recognition to the following friends of the food pantry who donated more than $5,000 during our most recent fundraising campaign:
