#ThrowbackThursday: 5 Years Ago, When Community Carried Us

Five years ago, in the heart of the pandemic, our little pantry became something bigger than any of us imagined. With need at an all-time high and uncertainty around every corner, we rolled up our sleeves and did what we had to do—together.
There were moments of ingenuity (remember our makeshift cooler to handle the overflow of eggs and yogurt?), moments of muscle (huge thanks again to Ronald Webb Builders, who showed up with a dump truck and the manpower to help us haul in food), and moments of real surprise—like meeting Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley of the JBJ Soul Kitchen Food Bank. They organized a truck full of food every week from May through September of 2020 and gifted us a commercial refrigerator!

With church services on hold, the pews didn’t sit empty—they were packed with food for our neighbors. Week after week, the sanctuary became a place of nourishment in the truest sense.
Looking back, we’re filled with gratitude. Gratitude for our volunteers, our community partners, and everyone who said, “How can I help?”—and then showed up.
The world has changed, but the spirit of those days still fuels us. And as we continue our mission, we carry that same energy forward: community first, healthy choices, always.
